massage, yoga class, gurudev [28 Jul 2005|04:26pm]

afka
does anyone want a massage soon?
not this weekend but next weekend because i don't have any exams to study for
call me to set an appointment up :)
my fees are quite reseaonable and i am willing to do exchange :)

and if you are free tomorrow night please try to make it to my yoga class
by the way...

in two weeks gurudev is going to be in town for a yoga nidra retreat
and he'll be giving a public lecture for $20 on Friday August 12 from 6-9pm
so my class will be cancelled that week
but that is wonderful in a way because then everyone can come and meet an amazing yogi
this will be his last visit to ohio so i encourage you even if you never come to my yoga class to come and meet living yoga master
i've had some beautiful experiences in his presence
he is an excellent guide and teacher and quite knowledgeable
we'll probably do some chanting, some meditation, some lecture, some sharing/questions and who knows what else...if we are lucky perhaps we will have a sample of a yoga nidra experience :)

i'm realy sad that gurudev will not be coming around to this area again
but he is getting older like all of us
so again i really really encourage you to see him this one time just to have the experience
and if you have been looking for a retreat of sorts to experience in the local area
this is your opportunity with several options of attending:

5 days Aug 12-16 $475
Weekend Only Aug 12, 13, 14 $195
One Day (You pick the day) $100
Friday only $20 (just an evening session 6-9)

The event will be held at this location:
Lake Anna Hall
541 W. Park Avenue
Barberton, OH 44203

one of the best things about yoga nidra is you don't have to do any yoga poses
you just lay there in deep relaxation
so those of you that are not the yoga nerds but want to work on yourself in a very real and deep way, consider doing this retreat...

here's a little blurb if it is helpful :)
"Renowned Yoga Master, Yogi Amrit Desai will guide participants in this ancient yogic technique that is simple to practice but profound in impact.

Create intention for your life

Explore the healing power within

Rejuvenate your health

Release old habits and patterns

Enjoy new freedom, joy and spontaneity

Yoga Nidra is the unique combination of alert awareness and deepest relaxation. It takes you to the alpha and theta states of consciousness. In these deep states, the mystical integrative powers are released. This is the center where visions become reality, giving you access to the extraordinary powers of your own intuition, creativity, health and abundance.

Modern science is now recognizing the powerful healing impact of the pineal gland. As we age, this tiny gland buried inside the brain decreasingly produces the hormone, melatonin. For millennia, yogis have known this hormone as amrita, the nectar of immortality. Reactivation of the pineal gland is both rejuvenating and restorative. This practice is central to both Yoga Nidra and the Amrit Yoga Asana Sequence for its powers of transformation and healing.

Melatonin is a powerful agent in helping to:

Retard premature aging
Boost the immune system
Eliminate stress
Induce more restful sleep
Reduce high blood pressure
Recharge and balance the chakra system
Yoga Nidra initiates shifts from the deepest core of your being, providing you with powerful tools to banish self-destructive unconscious fears, beliefs and habits. It can be used as a powerful tool to erase old unconscious karmic patterns. Yoga Nidra can help you reshape your whole life, rebuild your health, your love life, family life and professional life.

Join us. . . Immerse yourself in a five-day program
that can last you a lifetime!"

Essays: Gap Technique and Tantra Yoga [24 Jun 2005|09:58pm]

primalfire
Two recent essays.

Technique: Shifting Gap Intuitive-Logic Method
Between the left and right brain modes of operation is a space, a razor-fine line which can be walked. Shamans would call being in the space the ability to be in both worlds at once, the conscious deliberate world AND the surrendered mysterious energetic world. For me, this space is another representation of the ‘GAP’, the ever-present unknown which makes up the greatest majority of manifest reality, the realm of infinite potential.
http://www.livejournal.com/users/primalfire/26371.html

Tantra Yoga and Technique of Building Consciousness
Tantra yoga is able to use any action as a means for self-realization, recognizing and incorporating into its practices the universal laws of attraction and repulsion, and integrating with the underlying unity beyond them. For clarity, tantra yoga has a scope and potential far beyond the sexual aspects typically identified in the Western world.

Two Essays .. Consciousness and More [18 Jun 2005|02:42pm]

primalfire
Witness is Conscious Action
Witness awareness, meditative awareness, conscious observation, conscious sight, witness mode of being, conscious awareness; these words are attempts to identify the Self which observes, not the mind which watches. To rephrase, witness conscious awareness is a mode of being in which the observation of the observer who watches the world occurs.

http://www.livejournal.com/users/primalfire/23524.html

Polarity and Alignment With Universal Energies
The universe wants exactly what we want for ourselves. When we start following the laws of the universe, then we have the power of the universe behind each of our actions for fulfillment of our purpose.

Email from Kalindi and the SGY Staff [11 Apr 2005|01:24pm]

afka
Greetings to you once again,

I am writing this e-mail with the sun at my back and the cardinals singing in my window- what a glorious day is coming our way! Hope you all have a chance to go outdoors and enjoy it! I am raking leaves from last fall and planting some perennials myself today -

Some reminders for the coming week:

Book Club for those participating on Thursday of this week Chapters 8,9 and 10 if there is time.

Swami Ji from the Kent Ashram ,which you were already notified ,is coming this Sunday from 1-3 at the center and,

Next Sunday the 17th is our regularly scheduled Satsang at 6:30 pm

Coming in May:
MARK your calendars for Sunday, May 1st from 2-5 pm for our next workshop
PRANAYAMA - Practice & Benefits
This workshop will discuss the importance of proper breathing on the mind and body. The breath is our 'life force' which nourishes our cells, quiets the mind and reduces stress induced damage at the cellular level. Several yogic techniques of breathwork (pranayama) will be introduced and practiced. Bring a sitting cushion and wear comfortable clothing. Cost is $45.00 at the door but do pre-register to insure enough handouts.

There are Sacred Ground Yoga brochures at the front desk for you to take and give to friends so look for them, CD's still a popular item especially for those wanting to do yoga at home or use as gifts for those who can't come to us-

Plans for Gurudev's visit are moving ahead and everything is coming together smoothly- we have a great location this year with plenty of room to move about and the lovely Lake Anna to walk around and sit in the grass during free time - nice job Lois! Information and registration forms will be mailed to you soon but mark your calendars for August 12-16th if you need to plan ahead-

Rudra is still taking Harmonic Touch Healing appointments for Tuesdays, Thursday afternoons and Saturday mornings so give Cheryl a call 330-336-3052; he may be gone for several weeks the end of May early June to work with Yogi Desai on a workshop so don't put off making your appointment-

We just welcomed back 6 new Amrit Yoga teachers-in-training who will be certified in Level I Amrit Yoga in early fall. We are so lucky to have so many committed and wonderful teachers who will be sharing their gifts and energy throughout the greater Akron area offering classes in Fairlawn, Wooster, Medina, Canal Fulton, Doylestown, Barberton and of course Portage Lakes. We also have 2 more students who will be certified in Level II in the fall making 6 Level II advanced teachers amongst us. Wow! great job Rudra! We are all so grateful to you and your dedication to us to create and sustain this beautiful community of yoga practitioners.

Well, this is becoming a newsletter instead of an e-mail but thought it would be nice time to time to update you all on what is going on as there is lots to talk about. We are also looking at starting another book study club if you have ideas on a book you would like to suggest email Kalindi at r_burky@sbcglobal.net

Please be sure to contact us with new e-mail addresses, home addresses and phone numbers so we don't lose contact - also if you would like to be removed from our list let us know. In the meantime, remember to Breathe deep, Love your Self well, Reach out to someone estranged from you, and Don't resist the energy!

Satsang December 19th, Note from Kalindi... [14 Dec 2004|03:09pm]

afka
Dear Sacred Grounders,

Just a quick reminder about this Sunday's Satsang at the hall. Donations welcome at the door, recommended $10.00 and good food as usual. Rick will lead us in a Yoga Nidra experience around our intention for the future of SGYoga; also .......

We are in the last week for our canned food drive so please remember the less fortunate and bring several of those cans with you to class this week and to Satsang. If someone would like to volunteer to deliver the goodies to BACM next Monday or Tuesday please let me know this week.

TIP: Here is a great hand mudra to strengthen your resistance against colds, coughs and chest infections this winter. Place both palms together and interlace your fingers. One thumb should remain upright, encircle it with the thumb and forefinger of the other hand. Do as needed or 3 times a day for 15 minutes. See if it works!

Have a great week and watch for ice! Kalindi

Sunday, January 2, 2005

_The Light Within_

Speaker: The Rev. Rick Arko

Begin 2005 by planting your feet solidly on sacred ground and finding your own light within. Children are invited to this service so that we can all experience the healing and harmonious vibrations of a continuous AUM chant accompanied by the didgeridoo. This will aid us in discovering the divine energy within. The Rev. Yogi Rick Arko, Director of Sacred Ground Yoga in Portage Lakes will help us plant our intention for the new year.
